I find it mildly fascinating that we tend to give hurricanes names...like Irene or Katia... as if somehow they are simply individuals who have worked themselves into a temper. In another situation, we might invite them round for a cuppa. Our tendency to anthropomorphise, I suppose (I'm not sure anthropomorphism can be converted to a verb, can it?).

Yes it is interesting - as is the fact that they're usually women!
Is the woman's name meant to give the illusion that the uncontrollable wind can be domesticated and controlled?
